News Item: SHC Team Conquers the World’s Highest Trekking Pass
A team from Skipton Hire Centre (SHC) has completed a 16-day trek through Nepal’s Annapurna Circuit, successfully crossing Thorung La Pass (5,416m), the highest trekking pass in the world.
Managing director Matthew Wilson, along with drivers Kevin Wilson and Simon Lightowler, took on the challenge alongside their close friend Kieron O’Grady, sales director of leading UK bath manufacturer Trojan. The trek was planned to mark milestone birthdays, with Kevin turning 65 and both Simon and Kieron celebrating their 60th this year.
Alongside tackling the physical challenge of the trek, the team wanted to support Kieron’s fundraising efforts for Alzheimer’s research in memory of his mother, who battled the disease. So far, the effort has raised £900 to help fight Alzheimer’s and support those affected.
The group covered 100 miles over 11 days, trekking through remote villages, steep ascents, and high-altitude terrain. The most demanding day saw them set off at 3 AM to reach the summit of Thorung La Pass, where the high altitude and thin air made every step a challenge. Despite the conditions, all nine trekkers in the group successfully completed the pass.
The trip was organised by Discover Adventure, who handled flights, accommodation, food, and guides, ensuring a smooth experience for the team.
Speaking about the experience, Matthew Wilson said: “It was tough, but an incredible achievement for all of us. We wanted to do something memorable to mark these milestone birthdays, and crossing Thorung La Pass together was an experience we’ll never forget.”
This challenge is just another example of the team spirit and determination that drives Skipton Hire Centre every day.
