News item: Guidance on Cyber Security for Businesses in Hire and Construction
Recently some large UK construction companies, including BAM Construct and Interserve, have been the target of criminals using cyber attacks.
As more businesses move away from paper-based systems and adopt digital technologies, addressing vulnerability to cybercrime remains a priority.
Businesses of all sizes are equally at risk from cyber threats and new guidance is now available, developed from a collaboration between the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). The ‘Cyber security for construction businesses’ document is available to download for free in both English and Welsh versions.
Cybercrime is an ever-evolving threat and the guidance can’t guarantee total protection, but following the steps outlined will help defend businesses against the more common cyber attacks such as phishing, malware and ransomware, and identity or password theft. The guidance also outlines processes to follow for a quick recovery if a business falls victim to a cyber attack.
The NCSC guidance is available as a PDF, to print and share openly with some conditions. For more information and access to the downloads visit this page.
As an added measure there are specific insurance products that cover cybercrime, outlined in the HAE Insurance Services and EHA Insurance Services Member Pack. This can be downloaded from the Members Only Area of the website (members’ username and password will be required).
